Editorial Policy
How we build, check and update our calculators and content.
People plan real work and real money around the numbers on this site. This policy explains how we choose, build, check and update our content so you can decide how much to trust it.
How we build calculators
- Standard formulas. Field capacity (width × speed × efficiency ÷ 8.25), sprayer output (5,940 × GPM ÷ (mph × spacing)), area and unit conversions and similar relationships come from established machinery-management and agronomy practice and can be verified by hand. We show the formula and the derivation of its constants on the page.
- Tested against worked examples. Before publishing or changing a calculator we check its output against hand-calculated examples, including edge cases such as zero, blank or impossible inputs.
- Transparent presets. When a calculator loads typical values (widths, speeds, efficiencies, seeds per pound, target populations) they are visible and editable, and the page states that they are starting points.
Sources we rely on
Where a value is not a mathematical constant we draw on published machinery-management references, university and cooperative extension publications, manufacturer specification sheets and seed-tag information, and we tell you when a figure is a general planning range rather than a measured or quoted value. Where recommendations differ by region, we say that local guidance takes priority.
Estimates and price ranges
Cost figures such as contractor rates, rental prices and land-clearing ranges are broad planning ranges intended for budgeting. They are not quotes and they vary by location, season and job. We label them as such and encourage you to obtain local quotes.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made independently. Advertising, affiliate links or partnerships, if present, never change a formula, a result or a recommendation, and content is not written to favor a particular brand.
Updating and reviewing
We review calculators and content periodically, when a reader reports an issue, and when standards, tools or market conditions change.
Corrections
If we find or are told of an error, we correct it promptly. If you notice a problem, please tell us on the contact page, and include the page, the inputs you used and the result you expected.
Limits of our content
We are not a substitute for a professional. See our disclaimer for the limits of calculators and how to use them responsibly.
