About Us
Free, accurate farm and land calculators built for people who work the land.
Acres Per Hour Calculator is a free set of calculators for the practical questions farmers, ranchers, custom operators and landowners ask every season: How many acres can this machine cover in an hour? How long will this field take? How much seed do I need? What will clearing this land cost?
Who created this site
Acres Per Hour Calculator is built and run by a small team, not one anonymous author. Michael Steve leads it and reviews every change before it is published; Jordan researches the data, Alex builds the calculators, Chris writes the pages, Eric tests the results, and Madelynne handles corrections afterward. See everyone on our team page.
Why we built it
We started with the acres-per-hour calculation because a version we checked elsewhere divided by a rounded 1,000 instead of the exact 43,560 ÷ 5,280 = 8.25. We wanted a calculator that used the precise constant and showed its work, so you could check it by hand instead of taking our word for it. From there we built out the tools that surround that same question: mowing time, sprayer calibration, bush hog rates, seeding and plant population, cost estimators and an acreage calculator.
What expertise is behind it
Nobody on the team claims to be a licensed agronomist, engineer or surveyor, and we say so throughout the site. What the team brings is hands-on experience building, testing and maintaining farm and land calculators: translating published machinery-management and agronomy formulas into tools that work correctly on every input, and checking that work against hand-calculated examples before anything goes live. Where a decision needs a licensed professional, such as a survey or a pesticide label, every relevant page says so and points you to one. See our disclaimer for the limits of what the team does and does not claim to know.
What we believe
- Get the math right. We show every formula, explain where its constants come from and use exact values rather than rounded shortcuts.
- Be honest about estimates. Field conditions change results. We say so, and we label planning ranges as planning ranges.
- Be quick and clear. Answers first, then the explanation. Calculators load instantly, work on a phone in the cab and do not need an account.
- Stay independent. We are not affiliated with any equipment manufacturer, and our calculators are not built to steer you toward a brand.
How a calculator gets made
Every calculator runs in your browser; numbers you type are never sent to our servers. Before it is published, each one goes through the same steps: Jordan researches the data from official and primary sources, Chris writes the explanation and worked examples, Eric tests it against hand-calculated examples including edge cases such as blank or zero input, and Michael reviews the formula and the page before it goes live. The full, calculator-by-calculator breakdown, including the exact formula behind every tool, is in our methodology.
How often pages are reviewed
We do not run calculators on a fixed schedule and then stop looking at them. Pages are revisited whenever a reader reports an issue through our corrections process, and periodically whenever the underlying standards, tools or market conditions change enough to matter. See our quality standards for the full testing and review bar.
Who it is for
Row-crop and hay farmers planning field work, ranchers and landowners managing pasture and brush, custom applicators quoting jobs, students learning machinery management, and anyone who needs to turn acres into hours or dollars.
Data and security
Calculators run in your browser; we do not see the numbers you type. See security for the technical detail and our privacy policy for the legal detail.
